Since 20 April 2020, through a global survey, the COVID-19 Disability Rights Monitor (DRM) has been gathering data to conduct rapid independent monitoring of state measures concerning persons with disabilities in the context of the pandemic.

Hundreds of people at the Federico Mora disability institution, exposed to staff infected with COVID-19, are locked into the facility, which has been sealed from outside access. Disability Rights International (DRI) calls for immediate government intervention to test detainees, provide care to those exposed, and immediately remove anyone who has not yet contracted the virus.

Disability Rights International (DRI) is dedicated to promoting the basic human rights of people with disabilities, including the right to grow up with a family and live the community (DRI reports are posted at www.DRIadvocacy.org). For over 25 years DRI has worked around the globe documenting the human rights concerns of children and adults living in institutions, including nursing homes, social care facilities, psychiatric hospitals, orphanages, shelters, residential care, or even congregate community treatment facilities.

Disability Rights International (DRI) has joined forces with several other disability organizations to initiate a global data collection - via questionnaire survey - to help measure the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the lives of children and adults with disabilities throughout the world. Disability Rights International (DRI) and a coalition of women, children and disability rights organizations –the “Colectivo Chuhcan” A.C., EQUIS Justice for Women A.C. (EQUIS), Information Group on Elected Reproduction (GIRE), Transversal, Action on the Rights of People with Disabilities A.C. and the Mexico Children’s Rights Network (REDIM), submitted a report to the United Nations Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities for the Committee (CRPD Committee).

Disability Rights International (DRI) has long been concerned about the human rights of people with disabilities in Armenia. In the 1990’s we trained and supported many impressive disability activists in the country. We worked closely with activists committed to ending the institutionalization of children and people with disabilities in orphanages and other institutions.
